Books in Home Celebration

What a fantastic way to start the day!

On Tuesday 12th June, 2012 the year 1/2 students at Holy Child primary school in Dallas received their much awaited books. Our school has been fortunate enough to be part of the BOOKS IN HOMES initiative which helps children improve their literacy skills as well as maintain a love for reading.
The year 1/2 students gathered in our school hall with some of our parents to begin our celebrations. First, author George Ivanoff spoke to us about how he loves reading and why. He then read us one of his favourite stories called “The New Kid”.

Next the students moved into their class groups and were each given a book bag with three books that they had chosen. They were all so excited at receiving books that were theirs to keep. We had a great morning sharing our books with our class teachers, friends and parents.

The students are all looking forward to doing it all over again in term 4.
